Denmark's Queen Margrethe II abdicated on January 14, 2024 in favor of her son. While her son Frederik X is King, Margrethe retains the title of Her Majesty Queen Margrethe and can become regent in the event of incapacity of both Frederik X and Crown Prince Christian. Also she can perform the duties of head of state in certain instances such as when Frederik is traveling outside Denmark.
