About Gudrun Budtz Christensen & Helga Christensen

Update 5-13-2013:  See comment below from Lone Budtz which explains that although Gudrun Budtz Christensen assisted the medical staff in Siuyen she was actually an historian.
Original post:
We recently found new information that resolved some confusion about one of the missionary nurses who served in Siuyen -- Gudrun Budtz Christensen. Based on ambiguous statements in the material we were working with, in a few posts we described her as the sister-in-law of Rev. Axel Christensen. We have just determined, however, that the sister-in-law of Rev. Axel Christensen was named Helga Christensen. Helga Christensen was not a missionary. Rather, she came to Manchuria on a trip, then was prevented from leaving due to the onset of World War II. Apparently, Helga Christensen did work as a nurse at Siuyen Hospital for a time even though she was not a missionary and then left Siuyen along with Anna Bøg and Anna Busch in May, 1946. We have corrected the earlier posts in accordance with this new information.

Gudrun Budtz Christensen was not a nurse but University candidate in History 1936. She was not allowed to teach and therefore assisted the medical staff!

Thank you for this additional information. It is very difficult to sort things out from the documents we have. Please feel free to tell us more or better yet contribute a short biography and photos of GBC that we can publish on this site! Kind regards,
