Centuries after the death of the medieval Danish Queen Dagmar, who wore what has become known as
the Dagmar Cross, a daughter was born to the future
King Christian IX of Denmark and his wife, Louise of Hesse-Kassel. She was given the name Dagmar. Princess Dagmar would convert to the Russian Orthodox church, taking the name of Maria Feodorovna, become the wife of Tsar Alexander III of Russia, and the mother of the last Russian Tsar, Nicholas II. She was the great-great aunt of the current reigning monarch of Denmark -- Margrethe II.
