As we've discussed in earlier posts, Russia's last Tsar, Nicholas II, was the son of Princess Dagmar of Denmark (Maria Feodorovna) and the grandson of Denmark's King Christian IX. Nicholas II's imperial yacht, The Standart, was Danish-made by the Copenhagen firm of Burmeister & Wain. She was the envy of other European royalty: It is said that the Prince of Wales (the future King Edward VII) wanted to copy her and Kaiser Wilhelm wanted Nicholas to give her to him. You can read all about the Standart, including the story of her construction in Denmark, at Harald Hendriksen's dedicated site here.
